“Commerical Building Tax Deduction Extended to December 31, 2013”
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 sets out requirements targeted to raise energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. To encourage commercial building owners to invest in energy saving technology, Section 1331 of EPAct ’05 allows for a one time deduction in the year the project was completed. The deduction is calculated by comparing the light power density to ASHRAE standard 90.1-2001 but cannot be greater than the cost of the project.
