Case Studies

Distribution / Warehouse: Retrofitting distribution and warehouse facilities typically present the best opportunities for quick paybacks because of their high operating hours and the use of inefficient HID lighting for high bay areas.  HID lighting produces less lighting as time passes while using the same amount of energy as a new lamp.  HID lighting must also remain on continuously during working hours because they take up to ten minutes to warm up.  New HIF T5/T8 high-bay fixtures use half of the energy compared to HID fixtures.  They can also be paired with controls such as occupancy sensors to turn the fixture off when the area is not being used.  This results in significant overall energy savings and better light quality.

Government/Institutional/Commercial: These facilities typically use T12 lighting in the majority of areas, which is retrofitted to T8 lamps and electronic ballasts.  Gymnasiums and other areas may use HID fixtures that can be replaced by HIF high-bay fixtures.  Any existing exit signs using incandescent lamps are replaced by exit signs that use LED’s.  Occupancy sensors can be used in offices, hallways and restrooms to increase energy savings.

Industrial: Light quality is critical in industrial facilities and a lighting upgrade may result in higher employee productivity.  Energy savings can also be significant due to the high operating hours of most industrial facilities.  Retrofitting existing HID fixtures to T5/T8 high bay fixtures will provide both higher light quality and energy savings.  Any T12 systems can also be changed to T8 technology that will provide better light output, lamp life and energy savings.
